More epic in scope than his previous releases on Night People, Tracey Trance’s Mummy Fingersis a lot more in tune with the classical art aesthetic of its album cover than one would guess. Tracey conducts a sort of symphonic tour of his realm, as “one hand mans the organ, the other dances up and down a wah-fucked Casio.” The behind-the-amusement-park sound of The Fountain (which I posted about in our 2010.5 Tapes feature) is evident, though the carousel has given way to the rollercoaster. At times, Mummy Fingers literally sounds like the Cyclonebarreling down its shaky frame. Yet rollicking jumpers don’t define the tape, as sprite songs, free association rambles, and Casio flute ballads are just as prevalent. A great entrance point for anyone looking to dig into the world of Tracey Trance. (via Chocolate Bobka)
